It was a mellow yellow Saturday night at Miami Shark Bar last weekend, with DRAGGS, Good Boy and Babaganouj sharing their new tunes with everyone that came on the night. Minimum Wage Club were the crew that put on the gig, who have held other rad events at the shark bar with bands like the Pinheads, Skegss and Palms. For such swell bands to be playing at a free local gig on a Saturday night, it was definitely one that we weren’t going to miss!
The DRAGGS blessed the stage at the start of the night playing tunes from their latest release ‘Slob City’ at the start of the year. I’d heard a lot of good things about the Gold Coast dudes when they played with White Lodge last week at Elsewhere for White Lodge’s debut release. A band with so much aggression and energy, muffled with spaced out 80’s inspired sounds and a very lofi, garage undertone in all of their songs, which made their transition between tunes very smooth throughout the whole set.
Good Boy were up next, which I was pretty stoked to see after getting them getting to hear them play a few tunes live in the studio earlier that day (feel free to check that out here -
They had said how excited they were to check out Shark Bar for the first time. It definitely sucked how quiet it was at the bar that night so that the boys couldn’t experience it at full power like it was at Palms and Skegss, but they still completely owned the stage and got the few people that were there up and grooving around on the dancefloor. They played everyone’s favourite tunes from their old releases, very latest EP ‘No Love for Back Home’, and also some previews of an album that they’re currently in the progress of recording!
Babaganouj were the quirks that finished off the night. The Brissy band had only just released the video clip to their hit single ‘Do Rite with Me Tonite’, which got me even more keen to be able to witness it live on stage, as well as all of the other tunes on their brand new EP ‘Pillar of Light’! Although the trio has just a soft and subtle sound, they definitely knew how to bring a lot of force and joyful intensity into their performance! Just like Good Boy, Babaganouj had the grand finale of their national tour that night so you could feel how stoked they were to have just accomplished the weeks of travelling they had just done.
