Moaning Lisa burst onto the scene, with 'Carrie' quickly becoming an anthem for people everywhere. Since then the band released the highly anticipated E.P 'Do You Know Enough' with a national tour to follow, including Shakafest, November 24th. Christian Kafritsas asked the band a few questions before they play their first EVER Gold Coast show!
Looking back on your time as a band and correct me if I’m wrong, is Shakafest is your first time playing on the Gold Coast?
Yes you are absolutely correct! Hopefully the first of many more, given it all goes well (we’re not used to sunshine)
Answer honestly, are you more excited to play your first Gold Coast show compared to your first show in Brisbane?
Truthfully? Not really! Playing in Brisbane for the first time was a bit of a milestone for us. Down in the inland city of Canberra you get the feeling that Brisbane is this fictional beach uptopia, so it definitely felt pretty exciting getting on a plane to go there for the first time. But honestly any opportunity to hop on a plane to get to a show is exciting and makes us feel super legit. And we love airports...is that weird?
You just dropped your ‘Do You Know Enough?’ EP, how’s the response been so far?
The response has been amazing so far! Hayden's Dad put us on one of his Spotify playlists and Rachel Maria Cox made a meme about us, so we're loving it.
Now that you have new music out, can we expect a mixture of the new EP as well as songs from ‘The Sweetest’ to make an appearance on the setlist?
ABSOLUTELY. We are definitely focusing more on tracks from the latest EP but also expect to hear some new and unreleased songs as well.
If you could join one another band on stage that’s also on the Shakafest line-up, who would it be?
Would have to be Bec Sandridge. 100%. Although it would be more guitar wars than an actual set... just imagine if Ellen and Bec were on the same stage shredding it out against one another. We’d ALL go up in flames and it would be beautiful.
If you had to pick between the two, which would you prefer. Listen to someone scratch a chalkboard through headphones or watch Smash Mouth’s ‘All Star’ music video on repeat?
Oh easy, All Star on repeat. It is the national anthem, didn’t you know?
Who did ‘Sound of Silence’ the best, Simon and Garfunkel or Disturbed?
We are ALL about the oldies, just take one car trip with us and you’ll figure that out. And love the imagery that song brings to mind of Grandpa Simpson and Mrs Bouvier re-enacting the Graduate. Classic.
Lastly, what would it take for you to close your set at Shakafest with Whitney Houston’s version of ‘I Will Always Love You’?
Only a giant karaoke machine and too many wines would ever make us believe we could do that song the justice it deserves.
