Elsewhere ‘Came together, Over Ivey’
If you live around this area, its not hard to notice that there’s a little niche of super young Gold Coast bands, they all seem to be mates and dig each others music, it’s quite lovely. This is what the atmosphere felt like at Ivey’s single launch on Friday the 8th of July, Peach Fur, Lotus Ship and Ivey all came together to put on one hell of a night full of psych, rock, indie goodness. Ivey consists of 4 members all under the age of 20 already kicking goals with having supported Bootleg Rascal, The Creases and loads more during their young career. Elsewhere Bar was jammed packed with bodies. Something about young bands is that they have extremely committed fans, in which are always down for a boogie.
All of the bands were pushed back to start earlier due to lockout laws coming into place in QLD recently. As Ivey graced the stage everyone bunched together in real tight to all grab a good spot on the cosy stage at Elsewhere. The band were extremely thankful for everyone coming along and cracked out those catchy riffs and lyrics, we got to hear the likes of older tracks ‘Smell Of Smoke’, ‘Cascade’ and of course what the gig was all about ‘All Things Good’. There’s been a huge hype around the bands newest single and some fans knew every word to the song, which brought many smiles to the band’s faces.
Millie Perks and Lachlan McGuffie, the lead singers of the band show to have a crazy connection when they play their live shows, constantly bouncing off each other, taking turns to individually encapsulate the audience by strutting their stuff on stage with solos, but always looking out for each other and having a laugh together. Lachie, the sneaky bastard, pulled the ‘I’m thirsty’ trick, managing to get most of the crowd offering him their drinks during the show. These kids have already got so much charisma, it makes us excited to watch them grow as musicians in the coming years.
The highlight of the night for me was Ivey covering ‘Come Together’, mannnnn that was so good, full of sass and attitude from such a little innocent group of youngins, they know how to turn it on when they want to.
