Kill Your Emo Darlings With Love @ Elsewhere, Gold Coast - 30/10/2015

Some would call it a beautiful concoction of local Australian music; others might refer to it as one giant sausage fest (or a bunch of ‘Halloweiners’). No matter what you wish to call Strange Yonder’s Halloween festivity, ‘Kill Your Emo Darlings with Love’ went down as the record label’s biggest and greatest Halloween event to date, composed of the guys from Donny Love, the Salvadarlings, Karl S Williams and the Brian Emo.

The boys took to the stage at Elsewhere nightclub on Halloween-eve dressed to impress – with the whole crew wearing nothing but an angelic shade of white that surely filled everyone’s head with anticipation and curiosity. What I had failed to realise before this event was that Strange Yonder like to catch you off guard and always throw in a twist, in this case it was the fact that all 4 bands were going to be collaborating on stage together.
 
Music that could only be described as that from the heavens and unconventional projections onto a Jesus-like Karl S. Williams, the crew mixed, matched and completely re-created their original tunes. Infusions of the traditional, sun-bleached, psychedelic pop sounds from Donny Love, Salvadarlings and Brian Emo, mixed with the dreamy and soulful voice of Karl created a sound as enchanting as the mullet on Andrew’s head.
 
With the sight Salvadarlings jamming together once again after their slight break, mixed with some of my favorite local artists, I would describe the sight I saw that night none other that what I wish to see at heaven’s gates once I pass on. Thanks to all the beautiful people, the sound-guys, security and the Strange Yonder crew for making it a Halloween-eve that I won’t be forgetting any time soon!
