Well it had been built up for quite some time now, the crew who I cruised up to Brisbane with were all pumped up for one crazy, mind tripping gig that was the first show of the Nonagon Infinity tour. A sold out show at The Triffid brought quite a diverse crowd, old couples with Uncle Acid shirts on and fresh 18 year olds keen to push each other around in a hectic mosh pit, no matter who you were you were you guaranteed a very impressive show. I had seen King Gizz at Falls Festival, Byron Bay, Gizz Fest and also at the Triffid late last year and every time I’ve seen them I come away extremely sweaty and also damn impressed. Not only has this Geelong based band released 8 studio albums in only a few years’ time but they tour like crazy and put on an energy filled show with no fail.

After releasing Nonagon Infinity a few months ago, we were all transformed into the older king gizz sound, comparing it to the most recent album from the band, Paper Mache Dream Balloon all recorded with acoustic instruments. ORB a three piece from Geelong, Victoria are supporting King Gizz on the national tour, I have seen ORB before when they supported The Murlocs at The Brightside and man can these guys play some quality psych rock. The room of the Triffid filled up quickly as ORB warmed up the crowd, quite literally. ORB have a very exciting debut album ’Birth’ coming out Friday 1st of July. With a small dj set from The Babe Rainbows lead guitarist between ORB and King Gizz starting, bodies were multiplying to escape the cold and grab a good spot in the soon to be mosh black hole.

The lights dimmed and out came the tribe of King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, we heard a bunch of the tracks from Nonagon Infinity. It was as if you chucked on the vinyl and played through the A side of Nonagon Infinity, the way King Gizz merge each track into another adds such a unique element to their live shows. Gamma Knife went absolutely off, bodies being thrown around and everyone singing ‘milk and honey for my body, c'mon through the door see - it's your unborn self’. People Vultures and Mr Beat were also major favourites of mine, the diversity throughout the album is insane and I think that’s what makes the live set so exciting as one moment your swaying and then you're head banging the next second. The flute made it's way out and there comes the baritone voice of ‘trapdoor, trapdoor and trap’, the crazy flips that Stu can do with the flute is insane. The set made it’s way over to album Quarters and we got to hear the full version of The River, every little epic second.

I feel so lucky to have watched the first show of the tour, let me tell you other punters that you’re in for a very special treat. King Gizzard And the Lizard Wizard are one of the best live acts in Australia, and you can quote that shit!
