With a fan-base growing by the minute, a groove-train of a particular youth culture spill into the core of Gold Coast’s nightlife Elsewhere, to witness the indie pop lovers - Ivey. With their recent release ‘Talk Talk’, Ivey are rising to the top rapidly and are here to steal the hearts of the Gold Coast yet again.
Local supports, Hot Coffee are kicking the night off with a laid-back genre and a fusion of hip hop and funk. An electronic-based style oozing with prominent grooves in their basslines, they’re certainly making the crowd struggle to stand-still. With a dash of humorous commentary and a beer in his hand the entirety of the set, front-man Matt’s clean crisp vocals create an eased atmosphere. They finish up with a surprise mashup of Eminem’s ‘Without me’ and one of their originals, before Matt plunges into the crowd and sings the rest of the song on someone’s shoulders.

With Elsewhere the most capacity I’ve ever seen it, fans are waiting restlessly for Ivey to take the cake. Within a moment, stunning front-woman Millie springs on-stage and once her feet hit the ground, the band slam straight into their first song ‘Won’t Be’. Instantaneously the band’s continuous energy bounce back and forth between the crowd as they cheer the lyrics in unison. Millie dressed identically to their recent music video for ‘Talk Talk’, with striking blue eyeshadow reflecting the sapphire tones from the single cover, and the boys in the simple but effective black and white fits.

From the get-go it’s obvious the band feel at home under the spotlight. Blooming with not only talent but a confidence that forms naturally, it’s as if these guys have been doing this forever. They’ve got their stage persona covered inside and out whilst adapting a new wave of electronic elements in their songs. Beams of blue, pink and green glow through the crowd and visually represent their style – fun and vibrant. Their indie pop tunes have lured the audience who are practically spilling onto the stage.

It’s half way through the set and the bands enthusiasm are at an all-time high, with Millie bouncing around stage, and both guitarists’ playing back to back. Up on the edge of the barrier she points the microphone to the crowd as they chant the choruses back at her. Reverberations of synth melodies start to surface, as the recognisable whistle in ‘Talk Talk’ echoes through the room. A feel-good atmosphere of a dance genre, they finish up with a fan-favourite ‘Always’, as guitarist Lachie’s vocal harmonies blend spectacularly with Millie’s voice as he plunges up on the edge of the barrier nearly taking the mic stand over with him.

Fans are walking away tonight buzzing with energy and songs that will linger in their heads for days after. The fun-loving, passionate bunch of young musicians are looking extremely professional for a small indie band, and their set has left me hopeful for the growth of the Gold Coast music scene.
