What do you get when you cross a deep and dramatic male vocalist with an electronic upbeat undertone that gets people up and dancing? Safia of course. Since being discovered through Triple J’s Unearthed Music 3 years ago, the Canberra trio Safia have had a massive impact on the Australian music scene with their debut album dropping earlier this year. Internal is the name of the guys first record and with banger after banger packed onto the album it was safe to assume that this venue was going to be full which was confirmed upon arrival at the Gold Coast's Night Quarter, with a 20-minute long cue which stretched along the perimeter of the venue.

Supporting on the night was the very talented duo Set Mo, who prepared the crowd for the night with their set of groovy bass lines and super fun bopping techno. We heard their fan favorite “White dress” which the crowd absolutely digged! As well as a rad cover of LDRU’s 'Keeping Score'. These guys were so much fun to get down to!

Agh Safia, they blew me away at Groovin the Moo earlier in the year. I was keen to see them again and relive the experience that these guys deliver for their fans. Honestly, the NightQuarter venue is massive and the crowd filled nearly the entire space, everybody was totally vibing, there was so much energy in the room. Ben's lyrics are incredible and his voice is undeniably unique and dramatic in a way which blends really well into the electronic aspect of their act.

From the eerie “Counting Sheep” to the beautifully constructed “Fake It Till Sunrise” I knew that Safia had a definite spot in my hottest 100 top 10, the only problem I had was deciding which track of theirs to include, however I have most definitely made up my mind now and “My Love Is Gone” has taken the spot. Ben the front man owns the stage, making full use of it travelling from left to right putting the same energy into every song just as his adoring fans project back to them. We all sung along to embracing me and the night was finished with their stellar track "Over You". We all danced, sung and absolutely loved Safia, what a night!
