The venue was packed as everyone was getting ready for Sticky Fingers to take the stage for their sold out Perth show. The guys have been touring around Aus this month performing their 3rd album Westway (The Glitter & The Slums) and sold out every show. They dropped ‘Sad Songs’ as their third single off the album earlier this week, safe to say I have been pretty excited for last night for a while, and so was everybody else I spoke to.
The last time I saw Stickys was a couple of years ago at Falls Festival, I was looking forward to a more intimate show even though Metro City is one of the biggest venues here in Perth. The place has a maze of staircases, different levels, balconies and multiple bars facing the stage to create a wall of people. The atmosphere in there was pretty incredible.
They kicked off the night with ‘Land Of Pleasure’, I think the crowd was stoked to find out they would be hearing some of their older favourites throughout the night, and thats exactly what they got. The night was a mixture of the best tracks from ‘Caress Your Soul’, ‘Land Of Pleasure’ and of course their latest release. Although I love these albums through and through so its hard for me to tell you what the best tracks from them are, the crowd seemed to go nuts when ‘Australia Street’, ‘Gold Snafu’, ‘Just For You’ and ‘Sad Songs’ were played.
They also played tracks I hadn't heard live for ages like ‘Rum Rage’, which they took to another level live. The guys upped the tempo towards the end and threw the whole band in there which was really cool! The set list was pretty on point although I missed a couple of tracks from their new album like ‘Flight 101’. But it was really awesome to know every single track because their newest stuff is all released!
The guys were called back for an encore and started crowd surfing on a giant inflatable lobster to ‘Lazerhead’. This was probably one of the best times I have ever seen STIFI in the past couple of years. I think everyone had a pretty incredible time, I cant wait to rock out again at Southbound.
