Miami Marketta held one of Australia’s finest rock bands, kicking off the weekend with homegrown heroes The Delta Riggs. The national ‘Fake That’ tour was in support of their latest single and to test out some new material they have in store for the next album. As expected the Gold Coasters showcased their excellent ability to rock a crowd with a mixture of new and old material.
The front row was packed with eager fans that were more than ready for show. The band absorbed their energy as soon as they took to stage, opening with ‘From My Mould’ and endless groove of ‘Scratch Flower’. Front man Elliot Hammond reeks Rock ‘n’ Roll as he casually sculls Jameson straight from the bottle and loses a piece of clothing between songs. He could very well be the ‘Baddest Motherfucker in the Beehive’.

They expressed how happy there were to play a hometown show and to perform new material from their upcoming album. The first of the new songs was a tribute to the late, great Tom Petty titled ‘Goodbye’ that Elliot and Jesse wrote on the day of his passing. They followed up with well-known tunes of ‘Bobby’s Flowers’ and ‘Get Right’ which got the crowd heated, however the band and venue really turned up for ‘The Record’s Flawed’.

Their latest single ‘Fake That’ seems to already be a fan favourite, this was made obvious by the crowds’ assistance to sing along to the new tune. The band attempted to leave on that note but were well aware their home crowd weren’t going anywhere. The boys returned to the yelling and screaming but with an instrument swap, including the unfamiliar sight of Elliot on drums and vocals as they played ‘Waiting for the Rain’ and ‘Better’. All members took back their usual roles for their popular, psychedelic hit ‘Supersonic Casualties’ and ended the show with the sensual and funky tune ‘Never Seen This Before’.

It’s exciting to see The Delta Riggs back in action and with some new material in the works. There’s no set release date, however their performance confirms we’re in for a real treat. The hometown heroes are improving with age, still holding their classic rock image and live show is better than ever. Their follow up from 2016’s Active Galactic is due out early 2019 which is worth getting excited for, but for now go check them out on the remaining dates of their ‘Fake That’ tour.
