It was a glorious, sunny Sunday afternoon on Currumbin Creek and heading into the RSL and up to the Soundlounge you could see many people had the same idea! The line was backed up right into the RSL and as we made our way up stairs it was apparent that The Honeysliders, Tim Rogers and Ben Salter would have quite the crowd to wow. Celebrating the 45th anniversary of The Rolling Stones album Sticky Fingers the collaboration of musicians would be playing the album from start to finish.

Dana Gehrman took to the stage playing a blend of blues and rock with a country twang. The crowd began to thicken as she rolled through her set, playing a mix of originals and, keeping in theme with the night, a couple of The Rolling Stones classics. Switching between electric and acoustic guitars, Gehrman kept the punters on their feet and grooving. Closing out the set with a few more originals, including cowboy-inspired tune Under The Wire, Gehrman left the buzzing bodies beaming for more.

By the time The Honeysliders took to the stage, the Soundlounge was packed! Busting straight into Brown Sugar, Tim Rogers bursts onto the stage in a whirlwind of rock n roll and sex and we are reminded not only of Rogers’ charisma and charm as a front man but also of just how slamming that side 1/track 1 is! The Honeysliders are as tight as ever and having an absolute blast playing together as Ben Salter makes his way on stage for Wild Horses. What a man, what a voice. Salter absolutely nails the classic ballad and has the whole room singing and swaying along with him.

The drinks are flowing, crowd is pumping and the band keeps on playing, moving their way through the album. Rogers has all the ladies swooning and Salter is melting hearts with that voice. After giving his Dad a shout out, Salter belts Sister Morphine (a highlight for yours truly) to a very attentive crowd before making way for Rogers to close out the album with Moonlight Mile - a perfect fit for Rogers’ register and another easy highlight for me. He makes his way to the crowd and starts shaking hands before leaving the stage for intermission.

After a short while the band make their way back up for another set, playing a mix of The Rolling Stones songs from various albums. Remember the name Dana Gerhman, kids. She joins the boys on stage for Gimme Shelter and blows the audience away and as Rogers’ shirt comes off things are getting pretty steamy. As the set comes to a close, the room is still buzzing and no one wants this to end! The Honeysliders, Tim Rogers, Ben Salter and Dana Gerhman really know how to rock a crowd and I left with a renewed love for not only Sticky Fingers and the musicians who wrote it, but for the artists I saw perform it tonight.
