This is the scene. It’s Fortitude Valley, Anne Street. A rainy night. Tia Gostellow has just played to a near capacity crowd at a venue called The Zoo. Most of the music which made up the set came from debut album Thick Skin. The concert has just finished. Three friends exit. As they stand on the street corner one asks the others what they think about what they've seen. RABBIT RADIO: What happened? T: What happened?! M: There was a girl and she played music. She was like, ‘La la la la la, la la la laaa!” RR: Be serious though. T: She was really good. She played... M: She’s hot. T: She is hot. And I don’t know what she opened with, but she closed with ‘Phone Me’. RR: The one before, what was that? T: ‘Strangers’, which was the one in the [triple j’s] Hottest 200. She did it with a guy called LANKS. M: LANKS! T: And she did – look, man. She’s got a really tight band. M: They are tight, they are tight! And I love that they were all wearing white! T: Were they? And she was wearing like, that really cool set. M: Corduroy! T: Cords! Yeah, the cords. RR: What’s the draw though? What is she really all about? T: What’s the draw? She’s really talented and she makes really cool music. RR: What’s her crowd like? T: The crowd was f**king going off. The crowd… the crowd – They were just really into it. There was a general good vibe. Everybody was f**king loving it. Everybody was having a really good time. They were really enamoured by what she was doing. At the same time, everybody was having a dance. RR: Where is it all going? T: I reckon she’s destined for bigger things. Words by Riley Fitzgerald
