Calling Alex Wall from Bleeding Knees Club on a crisp Friday morning from the Gold Coast the night after they headlined Snake Pit on the central coast, you can imagine how he sounded….very tired.  Life on the road is tiresome for the 27 year old, in the midst of an epic tour. but someone should of told him earlier... there's no rest for the wicked!
You’ve been a bit MIA for a while, you’ve just come back to Bleeding Knees Club with ‘Chew The Gum EP’ and getting a tour underway, how’s it feel to be back in action?

It feels exhausting…

Haha not as much fun as you remember?

Yeah Na it feels good, playing all the old songs again and getting back into it.. its good, i'm excited

So what’s it been like with the new line up, so originally it was just you and Jordan and now there’s 4 of you and you’ve had a few changes over the years?

Yeah its awesome, it sounds better than ever and it sounds HUGE… the new guys are crazy, the biggest nut cases which is what, I want especially for live shows. These kids are just out of control so yeah its awesome. It motivates me to go crazy even though I’m older now.

How did you meet the guys?

They’re all in bands from around Sydney. Nicks from Tweed. I just met them at shows and I like all their solo bands and yeah I just hit them up.

How come Jordan left?

He was doing other things other than music for a while. We’re still best friends. He’s actually staying at mine at the moment. We did it so hard for a long time, we worked really hard for ages touring non stop and I think its not really for everyone and I think he just wanted to do other things. He does some stuff with The Babe Rainbow now. I think he really wanted to live a normal sort of life with a normal job than wanting to tour and play music and stuff. Which is fair enough its not for everyone.

Since 2013 you kind of went on your own with Wax Witches?

Yeah I moved over to New York for a while and did my own thing for a bit. It was sick. I put out like 3 records or something and got to tour all of America a bunch of times and toured Europe and Japan a bunch of times by myself which was cool.

Back to home soil.. Is Wax Witches on the back burner now?

Yeah definitely. I’m writing an album for Bleeding Knees Club now so I guess ill be doing that for a while its too hard to do them both at once. I think I’ve got the whole solo thing out of my system for a while and I’m down to just have a band and do it properly.

So you’ve got Pinheads on tour with you for the EP, how did that come about?

I know a couple from hanging out in Sydney and stuff and I just hit them up. Their awesome. Their one of the crazy live bands going around Australia at the moment. And they psych me up to go on stage and so they’re like the perfect band for that. They’re all legends and we’re on the same level.

Back to chew the gum.. what is with the film clip?

I just met this wrestler dude at a show years ago in Sydney and he was just this big wrestler guy at ours shows which is not really the kind of people that would come to ours show so I just started talking to him and he was just this weird professional wrestler so I just started talking to him and he said we should do a video one day and it never really happened. When I got back I pumped into him and I was like ‘yes lets do a video’ and its pretty fun.

Weird you bumped into him again…fate?

Yeah he was going to uni or something near where I worked and I saw him on my lunch break. He loves music, he’s always at shows which was awesome.

How did you record the EP?

I do everything separately, we went up to The Grove up in the mountains. We just lived their for a while with John from The Grates helped produce it and Richie who plays in The Grates came up and played drums. We just hung up there, did the drums in 2 days and layered it up. I had already demo’d the songs pretty well. So there wasn’t any writing. It was fun. Just hung out in the mountains ate food and recorded.

Friday 26 th of May, are you pretty excited to play to the home crowd?

I’m actually really really nervous, its probably the most nervous out of all the shows I am. I think its going to be sick. I love playing at Shark Bar. I’m really excited. I’m glad to be back on the Gold Coast because I don’t get to go there much anymore. I think it will be a good show. I hope people will come.

I think people will definitely come.. Shark Bar is still the same with an epic crowd...

Yeah I reckon one of the best shows we’ve ever played was there so it should be sick

Sweet, Well thanks for having a chat and we will see you there!
