Folliwng airplay on triple j, triple j Unearthed and local community radio 4ZZZ, subversive Brisbane-based producer LÂLKA today releases her most powerful statement to date in 'Shut Up'. to launch her single and impending NSFW visuals, LÂLKA announces LÂLKA+FRIENDS, a new semi-regular roving clubnight with the first instalment to feature local techno artist REBEL YELL and moody, danceable pop from DEATH CLUB 7.
Crafting potent atmospheres that evoke "the unsettling experiemntation of Fever Ray and the catch rap immediacy of Die Antwoord" (Electronic North, UK), LÂLKA is an artist unafraid to create lavish sounds with a radical edge. In 2017, LÂLKA released singles 'Dare You To Love Me' and 'Cool Youth' to support from triple j, double j, triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, 4ZZZ, SYN FM and more, including QMusic who featured 'Cool Youth' in their official 2018 BIGSOUND teaser promo video.
Building to absolute chaos yet showing LÂLKA at her most in-control yet, latest single 'SHUT UP' (co-produced by LÂLKA herself and Haxx of Kult Kyss) harness pop as a weapon in a typically dynamic display of defiance and power. Rhythmic plucking industrial synths, droning bass and syncopated vocals crash into each other at increasing speeds as LÂLKA seeks to drown out voices of criticism and have her own voice heard. despite its title, the track has inspired vocal praise, with multiple 4 and 4.5 star reviews on triple j Unearthed and named in 4ZZZ's Best New Arrivals this week. Rather than utilise the nightlife spaces available to her, LÂLKA is carving her own in a new semi-regular roving clubnight LÂLKA+FRIENDS, not only to launch 'SHUT UP', but to encourage a thriving local club community. Inspired by Korean-American yaeji's NYC events and LÂLKA's fascination with how fashion and music subcultures mutate, curated by LÂLKA that centres music, people, genuine connection connection and inclusivity. "I'm such an introvert and social situations stress me out, so if I had to go to a party, it better damn well be a party I actually want to be at! My mission is to make LÂLKA+FRIENDS welcoming to everybody" says LÂLKA. "I want people to connect with the music on a much more intimate level than they would at a major nightclub, I want them to feel the immediacy of the music, so I'm going to make sure there isn't a great divide between artist and audience. I want them to dance in any way they feel comfortable in, or stay in the fringes to just soak in the music... no pressure, enjoy however you want to. I've chosen DEATH CLUB 7 to kick things off and REBEL YELL to finish things up... they both create music that's super cook, really different" "LÂLKA+FRIENDS events are going to be roving, semi-regular, and only run when we have a unique lineup that feels right. Time is the scarcest resource that we as millennials have- why would anyone want to spend their precious time revisiting the same old experience? We all want to transcend the mundane experience of our every day lives. I hope LÂLKA+FRIENDS offers that." An audiovisual artist at heart, LÂLKA will release her striking self-directed visuals for 'SHUT UP' in the coming weeks, with more announcements from LÂLKA+FRIENDS soon.
