New Gold Coast band Loose Leaf have shared their debut single 'Depth Perception' from their upcoming EP FRAMES set for release June '18. Fronted by Rory Switzer of Yes Sir, Noceur alongside Luke Johnson (drums), Wil Edgar (Bass) and Ondre Davis (guitar), these boys are more than qualified to deliver with their indie-pop meets folk meets dad rock sound; think Mac Demarco meets Local Natives.
Loose Leaf is the result of a small-town Canadian songwriter visiting the beaches of Australia on vacation and never leaving. What you're left with are songs that capture fleeting memories of a place left behind, and the pursuit of an endless summer, all whilst trying to redefine 'home'.

The band's debut single 'Depth Perception', the first of the two the band have planned to release before the EP,  explores the notion of viewing life's past, present and future experiences through various lenses. These lenses, or 'frames' simultaneously act as time and distance from situations, places and people throughout the material, a concept shared through the entire EP.

The line from 'Depth Perception' "Could have sworn it was ten miles not two/ Some thoughts may seem further away than they are to you" quickly conjures the image of looking through the mind's rear-view mirror in realisation that parts of your past may seem distant, but for better or worse, they're never really that far away. Although many of these realisations can be daunting, there is an underlying message throughout the song's tone and storytelling of accepting the uncontrollable like a warm breeze that may be messing up your hair, but feels so damn good.

Multiple layers of beach boy-esque vocal harmonies are complimented by clean, bright guitars to soth and seduce the listener into a state of reflective nostalgic bliss.

Just as the weather in their home state of Queendland has been referred to 'beautiful one day, perfect the next', thsi debut single from Loose Leaf is one which gains greater admiration with each listen.
