Magic happened Brisbane Powerhouse last night as BOQ and Hutchinson Builders presented the finest talent we have in our state for the annual Queensland Music Awards. What a doozy of a night it was!
Amazing performances from The Belligerents, Ayla, Balloons Kill Babies, Luke Daniel Peacock and much more, filled the night with local sounds. Triple j’s Gen Fricker hosted the night, announcing awards such as Pop, Country and Rock awards, Album of the Year, and Indigenous Award.
Brisbane band Violent Soho, without surprise, took the night by the reigns by picking up two separate awards for one of their most recent releases, Like Soda, in which won Song of the Year and also the Rock Award. Very well deserved! Sunshine Coast sweetheart, Ayla, pulled the Regional Award for her tune ‘Waiting’, whilst Dana Hassall took the Country Award. Local lady Sahara Beck, in which we had chat to on Sunday for her Bleach Fest gig, got a well-deserved Folk/Singer Songwriter Award. The Creases were another talent that pulled out two titles from the night, with Joseph Agius receiving the rock awards and also BOQ People’s Choice Awards – most promising male songwriter. Check out the many other awards that were announced HERE Joel Edmondson, QMusic’s Executive Officer, announced on the night, "Time and again, the Queensland Music Awards prove that Queensland produces some of Australia's most talented and exciting musicians. Although there can only be one winner in each category, the depth of talent that the QMAs have unearthed this year is staggering. The format consistently proves that opening the application process to the general public creates a space for unknown gems to shine. This year was also a great chance to create new ways of celebrating the commercial success of Queensland musicians around the world.”
