Colin Lillie
has made Australia his home after first leaving Scotland almost 20 years ago. But he didn’t choose to live in one of our glorious cities and pursue the 9-5 instead he went bush and found the dream his soul had been yearning for and continues to chase it every day. He has worked with some of Australia’s best including Eden Mulholland on his video clip trilogy as he calls it and has made a life for himself which would out most Australian natives to shame as he is part of some of our most vibrant and connected indigenous communities. He says he wants our future generations to grow up surrounded people who follow their heart without there being a moment to question the but’s or a could be’s. To follow their hearts and stop allowing generations of people living in fear.
What inspired you to move to Central Australia?

I wouldn’t say that I was inspired to move to Australia the first time it was just that I was I had a girlfriend who wanted to come to Australia and I was too afraid to leave her so I followed.I realised I liek this place. By the time i had got to Alice Springs my mind had opened much more and I decided that I liked Alice and I started to do things I had never done before….

Do you find that living in isolated areas allows your creativity to flow?

I think living in such a place which we like to call the navel of the universe, you either have to make changes or you don’t. There is not much happening so I find you spend a lot of time on your own and a lot not on your own. You end up with a lot of thinking time. That’s not a good thing for Colin…..

What are you most passionate about?

Life, I am most passionate about life. Because music is life, for me life has changed so much and if I am not going to be passionate about that then  might as well just not be doing it. I went about through life not being passionate but being preoccupied and with all the other things that go on...

How powerful do you believe music to be?

I think music is one of the most powerful things, Everybody has had trauma in their life and there is a point where music connects as a silent healer for that trauma, it’s that personal thing that everyone has to get through the hardest and darkest times of their life…..

It was such a great pleasure to have Colin in the studio with us, for more listen to the full interview which features his tracks including a live studio recording and a classic Ray Lamontagne favorite. Oh happy day.
