Claire Spies had a chat to bass player, Adam Ritchie from Drunk Mums ahead of their sold out show tonight at The Zoo, not bad for a Tuesday night outing! Chatting about the new release ' Ode To Death' and what to expect from the upcoming 'Denim E.P' Have a listen to the full interview here!
After a few technical difficulties, we finally caught Adam on the phone ahead of their sold out show tonight at The Zoo in Brisbane supporting Hockey Dad... HUGE!

RR: How was your first show in Melbourne the other night?
Ah, it was great! It was packed and great. Wild.

Are you expecting a rowdier crowd from Brisbane?
Oh well, definitely yea because there’s going to be about 600 people watching us so definitely hope it is rowdy!

Yea, I’ll definitely be right up the front for that one!
 Cool.

Are you stoked to be touring with Hockey Dad?

Well yea, we’re just doing the one show with them but yea it’s big – we’ve been trying to organise a show with them for a couple of years and it’s finally happened.

Yea, they were so good at Splendour  - you didn’t see them there did you?
Nah, I didn’t end up going there.

They were sick. What’s life like on tour for you guys is it all practice, practice, practice or drink drank drunk?
Yea, well we kind of just practice about two times before we go on tour and then we don’t practice during the week.

Too busy partying?
Yea, well we just play the show and you’re right – definitely get drunk.

Fair enough. What’s the craziest thing you guys have done on stage?
*laughs* the first thing that comes to mind is probably more that, you know, I can’t really remember but um… I took my pants off and rubbed my bass all over my butt.

Oh, wow *laughs*. I hope someone got a photo or video of that one. Have you ever been kicked out of a venue?
No. We’ve been banned from some but I think that’s been resolved since.

Really, even after that… *laughs*. Onto your new single, ‘Ode to Death’, I had a little bit of a watch of the music video, it was actually quite funny – was it a bit Scary Movie inspired?
Haha No, actually!

Oh really? That’s the first thing I thought of when I was watching it.
I don’t know, it wasn’t really inspired by anything – we kind of just wondered around tried to think of funny things.

Did the whole band help to write the lyrics to that one?
Nah, I wrote all the lyrics to that one.

Oh really? They’re quite dark *laughs*.
*laughs* it is but it’s kind of… death is real so.

Yea, fair enough! Tell it how it is. What can we expect from the rest of the Denim EP?
Adam: So, I’ve got another track that’s a bit more 70s style that will be on the A side with ‘Ode to Death’. Then on the second side I’ve got another one and Jake’s got another one but they’re more influenced by bands like Spitz and Ramones so it’s a bit more party and we sing in a bit of a lower tone but it’s all still rock and roll.

Bit different to Drunk Mums album?
Adam: Yea! I think that’s kind of the direction we want to go into is a bit more influenced by 70s punk than modern garage.

Fair enough, a bit of a mix is always good. Are the lyrics as dark and dismal as ‘Ode to Death’ or is it a bit more uplifting?
Well yea, some of them are a bit dark but I’m a bit of a realist so I don’t really consider it to be darkness it’s just real haha!

Yea, just straight up telling it how it is. Awesome, well thanks for having a chat to me.
 It’s alright!

Well thanks for the chat and hopefully I’ll see you tonight at The Zoo, Super excited!
