New music for your ears including Caligula's Horse, DMA's, City Calm Down, These Guy, Creature Kind, Daughter & more!
CALIGULA’S HORSE – MARIGOLD (INSIDE OUT)

"'Marigold' captures the essence of “Bloom” to me. The pure energy and vibrant colour, and the powerful, uplifting message that a person can not be judged by what they earn, or what they own, but by those they love, and those that love them”, says lead vocalist Jim Grey. “In that respect, I am a wealthy, wealthy man. This song is very important to me on a personal level.
DMA’S – LAY DOWN (I OH YOU)

Recorded and produced by Johnny Took (guitarist in the band) and Dylan Adams in a cramped studio in Coogee (NSW) over the summer of 2014/15 and mixed by Spike Stent (Depeche Mode, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Massive Attack), ‘Lay Down’ sees DMA’S continue their strong form and establish themselves as a band that can consistently bring the goods. While driving drums and a catchy guitar riff opens the track, Tommy O’Dell’s fantastic vocal melody quickly follows and demands the listener’s attention…ultimately leading to a climactic chorus as he bellows out above the instrumentation that lies beneath, melodic and chaotic all at once.
ALLAN SMITHY – THE STREETS (INDEPENDENT)

Mixed by Sydney’s Liam Judson (Cloud Control, The Laurels) and featuring the full-bodied harmonies of Jo Syme (Big Scary), ‘The Streets’ is a creative culmination by the crème de la crème of our homegrown talent. Allan Smithy believes that the ultimate way to come up with new songs is to keep things simple; take the dog for a walk, get a coffee and let the inspiration flow. When Allan found himself chasing his runaway dog through the Inner Western suburbs of Sydney, the summer-drenched tune ‘The Streets’ came into fruition.
CREATURE KIND – I HEARD (INDEPENDENT)

A hearty debut, Creature Kind have lived up to the second half of their name, delivering their eagerly awaiting fans with an impressive nine track EP. Songs To Get Young To is a cacophony of emotionally raw songs that display the bands penchant for a classic take on truly great songwriting met with upbeat indie pop tunes that prove their impressive musicianship and impenetrable harmonies.
CITY CALM DOWN – SON (I OH YOU)

With press from around the world (including NME, Stereogum, Consequence of Sound etc) already praising the first two cuts from the record, we are now very happy to present you with ‘Son’, the brilliant next single from City Calm Down’s debut full length. Opening with Samuel Mullaly’s organs and Jack Bourke’s signature baritone vocals, ‘Son’ is a track that swirls and turns while continuing to build (coupled with some well-placed horns and choir backing vocals) into what is in essence a beautiful climax of pop music.
LOWLY – FIRE (BELLA UNION)

Quite simply, Lowly are one of the best young bands I have seen live in a long time. The music is at times intricate yet deep and sensual, the fascinating rhythms of drummer Steffen a perfect counterpoint to the gorgeous melodies of Soffie and Nanna. The overall effect of this in tandem with the liquid bass and keyboard lines creates a set that has you on the verge of crying and dancing all at the same time. There isn’t a band out there today like them, which is thrilling. To make music that is both emotional and influential at this early stage, shows that Lowly is a band of limitless possibilities.
THESE GUY – OVER BEFORE IT BEINGS (INDEPENDENT)

Brisbane enigmatics These Guy are back with their brand new electro infused track ‘Over Before It Begins’. The pulsating, smooth single finds frontman Joe Saxby sounding his most self-assured, despite being inspired by the ‘emotional drain’ that the end of a visit to a long-distance partner inevitably brings. It’s yet further proof of These Guy’s uncanny knack for fresh, innovative feel-good songwriting. Playing stark silence against wailing retro guitars and skittering 80's synths; the melodic structure mirrors the fast pace of Bombay, India (the birthplace of the song’s concept). Saxby’s deft lyrical hand is front and centre, playing second fiddle only to his straight-up entrancing vocals.
DAUGHTER – DOING THE RIGHT THING (4AD / REMOTE CONTROL)

‘Doing The Right Thing’ concerns the delicate subject of dementia and its debilitating, all-pervading effect on family. Jane & Iain’s video of ‘Doing The Right Thing’ is a sympathetic portrayal.
