NICHOLAS ALLBROOK – BLANKET 3072 (SPINNING TOP)

‘Blanket 3072’ is designed to reflect the dreams and not the dreary, indicating transcendence into the intergalactic as Hollywood goes up in smoke. Don’t let the track’s gentle initiation or misleading title lead you into a sense of security. A solid wall of impenetrable synth and rhythm soon build, backed by melancholic guitar licks with the steady undercurrent of Allbrook’s raspy anarchic whispers.

Recorded between Brunswick, Melbourne and Allbrook's home in Preston, Perth, the self-produced ‘Walrus’ EP features guest instrumentation from drummer Julien Barbagallo (Tame Impala) and Evelyn Ida Morris, mastered by Aden Senycia, Allbrook also called upon Kevin Parker for mixing advice. The result - a release self-described as somewhere between lunacy and liberosis.
ROLLS BAYCE – LOST (INDEPENDENT)

‘Lost’ continues the band’s streak of artfully skewed pop singles, with it’s jagged opening synth line giving way to a burst of phased out guitar, rubbery bass and motoric drums. The band’s pairing of swirling pych guitars with the taut rythmic touchstones of soul is more potent than ever until, at the three minute mark, it all dissolves and re-assembles itself into a hypnotic loop, a fragment of a riff cascading again and again over a 4-to-the-floor disco stomp.
KURT VILE – LIFE LIKE THIS (MATADOR / REMOTE CONTROL)

Kurt Vile follows his opening single, 'Pretty Pimpin' with the downbeat, 'Life Like This'. 'Life Like This' is the second track to be taken from his forthcoming album “b’lieve i'm goin down...” The new single sees the Philadelphia native behind the piano in contemplative mood. Kurt Vile also stars in the accompanying Adam Avilla-directed video, where he is slowly transported to a dream-like animated world populated by drumming gorillas.
CHVRCHES – CLEAREST BLUE (LIBERATOR / GOODBYE)

CHVRCHES’ new song, ‘Clearest Blue’ is the latest track to be lifted from the band’s forthcoming second album, “Every Open Eye”, due for release on 25 September via Liberator Music/ Goodbye Records. The song’s lyrics provide the album with its title and, in the words of singer Lauren Mayberry, “encapsulate the feeling of trying to be hopeful but conflicted at the same time - of wanting to let yourself go but being afraid of the drop”.
MAPLES – I HAVE HEART (INDEPENDENT)

MAPLES presents to you I Have Heart, the second single off her soon to be released debut album. Following her first single Stars, a synth-pop co-write with Julian Hamilton (The Presets), I Have Heart encapsulates the essence of Maples. Ambient, synth driven pop. Pianos and vintage synthesizers, topped with layered vocals, embedded on acoustic percussion and programming.
MANSIONAIR – SPEAK EASY (LIBERATION)

‘Speak Easy’ is a bold leap forward, co-produced and mixed by Tony Buchen, and finds the band pushing themselves into unchartered production and songwriting territory with breathtaking results.
JESSE DAVIDSON – LAGOON (CREATE CONTROL)

“I wrote this song about a year and a half ago as a kind of piano ballad type thing and decided that it needed a bit more style. I’m not much of a piano player myself so I decided to change the part to an arpeggiated synth line and add a hip-hop style drum beat. I’m still very much into keeping my arrangements relatively minimal, to allow each part to have some room to breath. I recorded the song in a studio in London called Lightship 95, which is a renovated boat with a home studio on it. I think having recorded it there in the docks had a profound influence on how the song turned out. With the recording I made the active decision to play all the instruments myself. I wanted the song to have a nice balance between electronic and natural instrumentation. The song is about growing up and changing, and I think that theme comes across fairly explicitly when listening.” Jesse Davidson
