New music for your ears, including the latest from local ratbags Von Villains, Emma Louise, & Haelos
LEO – HOLD ON (Independent)

Brisbane trio LEO have finally released their official second single into the wide world. The sound incorporates the beautifully haunting vocals by young Chloe Pilkington, who wrote the song back in her graduate year. With heartfelt emotion, warbling synths and whispery guitar echoes, LEO have created a very unique style of dream-pop that triggers emotion and reflection.

KOI CHILD – 1-5-9 (Pilerats Records)

Fremantle seven piece hip hop/jazz outfit Koi Child has announced the release of their debut self-titled album on Friday 18 March through Pilerats Records. Produced by Kevin Parker which we all know as the genius behind Tame Impala. Releasing, 1-5-9 only last night the buttery, chill-as-you-like cut is the band’s second official single off the album.  Koi Child will coincide with a national album tour in March/April, including an appearance at Golden Plains Festival.

HÆLOS –  SEPARATE LIVES (Remote Control Records)

First introduced in early 2015 with debut track ‘Dust’, HÆLOS (Arthur Delaney, Dom Goldsmith and Lotti Benardout) spent 2015 in their studio writing and producing their debut album. The result is Full Circle – a darkly shaded yet ultimately radiant 11 track record that perfectly encapsulates the band’s philosophy. Lonni Benardout’s impassioned vocals are the main attraction on this track!

VIOLENT SOHO - EVERGREEN (I OH YOU)

The brand-stonking-new array of crashing grunge riffs and revelatory singalong anthems — the type that, after one listen, feel like you’ve been listening to for years — are just the sort we’ve come to expect from the owners of the best Australian rock’n’roll redemption story of the past decade. Evergreen track 8 on the WACO album was clearly written with a sweaty mosh in mind, Michael Richard’s drums are relentless creating drive and intensity. Be prepared to have a saw neck after listening to this track.

Congratulations are in order as well to Violent Soho who  just won the 'song of the year' and 'rock' categories at last night's Queensland Music Awards.

EMMA LOUISE – TALK BABY TALK (Liberation Music)

‘Talk Baby Talk’ is the second single from Emma Louise’s as yet untitled forthcoming LP. The track follows on from the single ‘Underflow’ and was produced by Pascal Gabriel (Goldfrapp, Ladyhawke). Emma will be touring around the country this April/May with Groovin The Moo!

AURORA -
CONQUEROR
 (Liberator Music)

Norwegian artist Aurora which translates to “Fjord of Lights, has just released her debut album, All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend, 12 songs of wonderful! The album features songs the teenager wrote when she was just 12 'Runaway' and even younger, like 'I Went Too Far'. Then there's the very raw 'Home', dedicated to her deceased grandfather. "I even performed it at his funeral, which is the only time I have performed it and I haven't done it since." “Conqueror” was written by Aurora Aksnes, Odd Martin Skålnes, Magnus Skylstad and Geir Luedy. The music video is for the little boy who couldn’t find the conqueror in himself. The conqueror is within you.

VON VILLAINS– LOSING MY MIND (GD FRNDS)

'Losing My Mind' deals with how the songwriter is coping with his current lack of creative flare to the band's songs. Although 'Losing My Mind' is as gloomy as Von Villains may get, lyric-wise, the track's melody and structure still packs a sweet, delicious crunch of indie-rock pie. Catch the boys at their single launch show APRIL 1  at Elsewhere Bar in Surfers, no doubt it will be an absolute ripper!

"Von Villains bring some serious indie-rock swagger on 'Losing On My Mind'." -Pilerats
LITTLE GREEN CARS – CLARE DE LUNE (Liberator Music / Glassnote Records)

We have plucked track ‘Clare De Lune’ which is one of the key tracks on the album,  Ephemera which means things that are important to you, but only for a short time. That could apply to music or relationships or even a particular day. This song is about society’s obsession with happiness. “It’s a semi aggressive song, which we hadn’t done before,” he says. “We finished it in a disused bar in Dublin. It was a miserable place to be every day, but a big light came on when we got ‘Clare De Lune’ right.”
