Happy Tuesday everyone, and happy new releases day. We've got a nice combination of new bands and older bands who have released music this week so take a seat and have a listen. New material from The National, Major Leagues, Gang Of Youths and heaps more. THE NATIONAL - THE SYSTEM ONLY DREAMS IN DARKNESS (4AD/ Remote Control Records) The National are pleased to announce their 7th studio album - Sleep Well Beast - to be released on September 8th on 4AD / Remote Control Records. Sleep Well Beast was produced by member Aaron Dessner with co-production by Bryce Dessner and Matt Berninger. The album was mixed by Peter Katis and recorded at Aaron Dessner’s Hudson Valley, New York studio, Long Pond. THE OWLS - 'JESUS LET ME FLY' (Independent) The Owls came out of their hiatus refreshed, revitalised and ready to record new material reflective of the psychological journeys of depression and anxiety that lead them to their break. They reconnected and continued their artistic relationship with producer Lachlan Mitchell (The Jezabels, The Vines). Their new single “Jesus Let Me Fly” is a musical amalgamation of 60’s garage rock and 90’s alternative rock, with influences from The Dandy Warhols and The Vines, to The Kinks pulsing throughout. While lyrically it deals with issues of mental health, growing up within a conservative town only to discover a significant lack of belonging within the mould and reality of the environment. These rock inspirations, together with pop sensibilities weaved throughout, by Lachlan Mitchell, places The Owls on the front foot for the remainder of 2017. OFFICIALLY OUT TOMORROW, LINK TO COME MAJOR LEAGUES - 'GOOD LOVE' (Popfrenzy) Brisbane garage pop four-piece Major Leagues today reveal new single 'Good Love', the title track off their upcoming debut album which they're proud to announce will be out June 16 via Popfrenzy. The album, produced by acclaimed Australian artist Jonathan Boulet, will also feature the recently released single 'It Was Always You'. Lead-singer Anna Davidson explains, “We went into the studio planning on recording 5 or 6 songs and came out with 12, which was weird... but cool. This is definitely the most collaborative thing we've ever done, which I think comes through in the sound of the record. It sounds more natural and cohesive than our previous stuff. Usually Jaimee and I have very separate writing processes (especially after I moved to Melbourne), but with a lot of these songs, we built them from the ground up together.” NEIGHBOURHOOD YOUTH - 'HUGO' (Independent) Brunswick natives Neighbourhood Youth are today excited to share their new single ‘Hugo’; the first taste of their 2017 repertoire. The single was recorded and mixed by Greg Rietwyk at Aviary Studios, and was mastered by Dave Walker at Stepford Studios. Having written the lyrics to the track, bassist Sam Nathan explains “Hugo tells the story of an old man reminiscing about the war, and his feelings and regrets from that experience. It also touches on how humans don’t learn from their past mistakes.” SINGLE LAUNCH DATES Friday, May 26th – Oxford Art Factory (Gallery Bar) – Sydney, NSW Friday, June 2nd – Yah Yah’s – Melbourne, VIC THE JUNGLE GIANTS - 'ON YOUR WAY DOWN' (Independent) ‘On Your Way Down’ showcases the band’s ability to combine simple arrangements with melodic intensity. “Not like a bashing your head way,” Sam says. “More like a rumbly building intensity. It makes you want to dance, but also clench your fists. When I wrote it I knew it was going on the record and everything else would have to make room for this song and nod towards it.” Recorded at Empire Studios in Brisbane, the 10-track ‘Quiet Ferocity’ was a result of frontman Sam Hales' “5 days a week, 9-5” approach to the creation of album number three. The poster people for creative risks in the studio, as seen throughout the journey from their first EP to triple j feature albums Learn To Exist and follow-up Speakerzoid, the new album showcases a seamless creative pairing of songwriting and diverse production methods.
