NEW RELEASES! Welcome back to the weekly roundup and what a pleasure it is to have you back. This time around you’ll find yourself in good company with the latest tunes from Cakes, Cyanide Thornton, Dilly Dally, Moaning Lisa, Dog Power, Black Belt Eagle Scout, Death Valley Girls and The Goon Sax.

THE GOON SAX – TIL THE END (CHAPTER)

It was hard not to throw in with We’re Not Talking for feature album of the week. In fact, not sure why we didn’t make it such. Most likely something we’ll live to regret as even after a few listens this record is definitely in good stead for being one of the standout Brisbane releases of the year so far. “Why is that?” You might ask. Well, The Goon Sax Not Talking continues to build upon Up to Anything’s songwriting and studied simplicity while treating their sound with an underground sheen.

CAKES – PUBLIC FISH (INDEPENDENT)

Kinda like Gizz, kinda like Zep. Local band support it.

CYANIDE THORNTON – WEIGHT (BEDROOM SUCK)

Just good underground noise, rock-folk and vocals. It would be unfair to hem in Bedroom Suck by saying that working with bands like these showcases the at its best, but it’s certainly one of their specialities. ‘Weight’ stands an honest document of human experience and word is there’s a whole record to follow it.

DILLY DALLY -DOOM (PARTISAN/INERTIA)

Dilly Dally carry an air of rock classicism but far from tried old macho themes, they weave LGBTQ+ storytelling amongst the assortment of other heart-laid-bare viscera which makes up new record Heaven’s narrative.

DOG POWER – NOT HUMAN (FLYING NUN)

Dog Power are one of NZ label Flying Nun’s latest acts and certainly they’re no repeat of what’s come before.

BLACK BELT EAGLE SCOUT - SOFT STUD (SADDLE CREEK)

Due to time constraints, little research has been conducted as to the nature of this US project but what can be affirmed is that ‘Soft Stud’ is an undoubtedly hard-rockin’ track.

DEATH VALLEY GIRLS – MORE DEAD (SUICIDE SQUEEZE)

Apologies in advance for using the term hard-rocking twice and in such close succession but Death Valley Girls are one the hardest rocking outfits we’ve had the pleasure of following to a record release. Dirty down and hammering rock ‘n’ roll.

MOANING LISA -COMFORTABLE (FATHER/DAUGHTER)

Moaning Lisa have done their homework. Here their accomplished handle on shoegaze/noise pop/straight ahead alt rock continues working to their credit. ‘Comfortable’ seems to provide the brighter contrast to the longingly heavy thematic of ‘Carrie (I Want A Girl)’.
