As we recover from the huge weekend that was Splendour In The Grass 2017, we have compiled the New Releases for this week and hopefully they will get you through. This weekend there's new tracks from War On Drugs, The Lemon Twigs, Fierce Mild & More, so have a listen, sit back, relax and enjoy!
THE LEMON TWIGS -'NIGHT SONG' (Remote Control Records)

The Lemon Twigs have announced Brothers of Destruction, a six-track EP of previously unreleased material, slated for Friday 22 September via 4AD / Remote Control Records. The siblings shared the first single from the EP ‘Night Song.

"
In the beginning of 2015 we had songs left over from the Do Hollywood sessions, so we decided to record them at home in New York on our 8-track. Many of you will recognise some of the songs from our live shows. They’ve changed a lot over the past year, but these are the original versions. We consider the EP the last chapter of the Do Hollywood era of our group. So enjoy!”

THE WAR ON DRUGS - 'STRANGEST THING' (Atlantic Records)

With just six weeks to go until the release of The War On Drugs’ A Deeper Understanding, their fourth album and first on Atlantic Records, out August 25th, the band now presents another song, “Strangest Thing.” This track is a slow burner that leads to an amazing finale. Singer Adam Granduciel lyrics express the ambivalence of a man stuck in an in-between state (“I ain’t got everything I need/If I’m just living in the space between the beauty and the pain”)

FIERCE MILD - 'DAESIN (Independent)

Cinematic art rock group Fierce Mild have delivered their genre-wandering new single ‘DASEIN’. Dasein, the fundamental concept from Heidegger’s Being and Time, is loosely translated as “existence”. The piece is the first of a trilogy from the forthcoming album, each providing a different moment of contemplation and pause. Simultaneously ambient and overwhelming, DASEIN proves that Fierce Mild stand alone with their unique, all encompassing sound. This song is nothing short of an atmospheric journey through time.

KING SOCIAL - 'LEMONADE' (Independent)

King Social has released Lemonade, the second single from their forthcoming album In Colour, to radio today; ahead of its public release next Monday, 24 July 2017. 'Lemonade', blends an honest and introspective rap about growing up and taking responsibility, with a soulful hook and a lashing of horns.  King Social’s hip-hop artist Stevie Mitchell, who also penned the lyrics to Lemonade, said the song is one of the most specific and personal the band has released.

“I started writing Lemonade just as I was about to begin my current job. I’d bounced around for a while and done every job under the sun and I’d come to a point where I just wanted to put my head down and finish something,” said Mitchell.

OLY SHERMAN - 'MONUMENT' (A&R RECORDS)

Oly’s latest offering is ‘Monument’. The new single takes off from where he left off, building on the smoothness of ‘Push Me Down’, into new heights with this driving indie- pop anthem.

“This song pretty much represents an operation I had earlier in the year. Yet as undesirable as that sounds, it has actually created some super positive outcomes for me, both as a musician and a human being. The song is a basic reminder to anyone that when things aren’t too crash hot, it comes down to the way you think, and the people you’ve got around you. It’s a pretty powerful one for me.”

For fans of Matt Corby, Ben Howard, at just 22 we expect big things from this guy!

BENCH PRESS 'BURNING UP' (Poison City Records)

Melbourne post-punks BENCH PRESS will release their debut, self-titled album via Poison City Records on August 25th. The band have just released single 'Burning Up': a sparse and irresistible insight into their LP. 'Burning Up' is a slow-burner, a gurner, all heavy bass and sharp, striking clean guitars. It is pared back in the most confronting way, but no less mesmerising or catchy for it. The occasional call-and-response vocals are haunting. Meandering lead parts exasperated yet powerful. An appeal to reason. Don’t lose your cool!

GOAT GIRL - 'CROW CRIES' (Remote Control Records/Rough Trade)

South London four-piece Goat Girl have released their new single 'Crow Cries.' The track comes from a 7" out Friday 25 August via Rough Trade / Remote Control. Goat Girl formed a few years ago in South London, the band have been busy on the road for the last 18 months playing with everyone from The Fall to Parquet Courts. Goat Girl are a special band. Songs that use subtlety as their main ingredient while remaining disarmingly fierce at every turn. Lyrics that mean everything despite being written down in the most simplistic and non-aggressive way possible. We are really loving this track at Rabbit Radio.

BORN JOY DEAD -'SINKHOLE HOLIDAY' (Independent)

Brisbane-based indie-rock quartet Born Joy Dead are excited to announce East Coast touring dates and reveal the lead single ‘Sinkhole Holiday’ lifted from their forthcoming sophomore EP ‘Throw us in the Fire’ (due October 2017). The fuzzy and garage-rock-esque ‘Sinkhole Holiday’ opens with sweeps of clean guitar and the enthralling vocals of Ben Dalton. Accompanying elements gradually build within the verses, before the dynamic dips; accentuating the impact of its soaring and infectious chorus. The remainder of the song is meticulously navigated, shining a light on Born Joy Dead’s ability to inhabit tracks and allowing them space to breathe.
Dalton describes the motivation behind the track:
“Sinkhole Holiday is in itself, a little four-minute journey. I wanted to explore some of the shittier personal things that have plagued me from time to time like anxiety, stress and doubt and portray them in a way that makes the listener feel just as lost as I was. But, as holidays end, so do shit times, so there’s a kind of ‘Keep your chin up,’ vibe happening in there too.”
