NEW RELEASES! We've caught a mild strain of Beatlemania this week and as such have had to include new-old tracks from John Lennon and the Fab Four themselves. But pulling ourselves out of the past and into the present (if just for a second) we've also collected another six tracks from San Mei, Amyl and The Sniffers, The Parrots, Sacred Shrines, Emma Russack ‘n’ Lachlan Denton and Lana Del Rey.
THE BEATLES – BACK IN THE U.S.S.R. (APPLE)

Expressing a critical opinion about The Beatles is almost a redundancy so perhaps we'll just say that we here at Rabbit are excited over the announcement that White Album is set ot be reissued in lavish form and not least notable of all is the inclusion for the first time of the legendary Esher Tapes, demoes recorded at George Harrison’s home fresh from the group’s Indian sojourn which many beat fanatics claim far superior than the ‘overwrought’ versions on the final album.

SACRED SHRINES - PERFECT DREAM (
ROGUE WAVE)

A new clip for an old garage classic. Something for your mind (expansion).

AMYL AND THE SNIFFERS – SOME MUTTS (CAN’T BE MUZZLED) (FLIGHTLESS)

This single cuts into a new era for Amyl and The Sniffers. They have a new lineup as well as approach to recording and are coming off the back of steady period of success touring internationally. But when it down to it Amy is still singing what she feels and the other three continue to back her with as good and hard-socking Australian rock as ever.

THE PARROTS – MY LOVE IS REAL (PIAS)

Great garage rock plain ‘n’ simple/These guys have worked with Hinds/Isn’t about time for your weekly dose?

EMMA RUSSACK & LACHLAN DENTON – THE HEATWAVE (ELOISE) (SPUNK)

‘Heatwave’ strips all the tension to a pared down shamble as Russack pours with heartsick emotion. You catch a feeling of longing and isolation even if not knowing exactly why. Perfect music for moody days.

JOHN LENNON – HOW DO YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT? – TAKES 5 & 6 / RAW STUDIO MIX (UNIVERSAL)

One of Lennon’s most vitriolic moments on record. He’s singing about Paul...

SAN MEI – HEAVEN (LXVI)

Mei has a new EP dropping soon and if ‘Wonder’ was the rocker ‘Heaven’ is the love song.

LANA DEL REY – VENICE BITCH (UNIVERSAL)

[Music Director’s Note: I’m not sure if you should. Lana throws my mind into two camps. One loves that she’s bringing forward classic ideas and sounds. The other objects to her whole shtick as a little too toothlessly middle of the road, in a word as edgeless as it is without depth - meaningless vague lyrical nostalgia, wallpapery pop hooks and a whole load of other thematic sap? Nine minutes of it? BLEH! None-the-less it’s actually ‘a good spin’ so you can make up your own mind here. I’ll merit its inclusion here, but if I’ve caused offense I am sorry and will provide a personal counselling service to all those affceted negatively. No, really. I mean it.]
