We’ve been taking it easy on the psychedelics this year, but this week we’re diving straight back in. The Jim Mitchells ‘Love Hypnotic’ is featuring as Album of the Week and in further celebration of the lysergic sound, Brisbane’s Nice Biscuit are heading up our new releases. Also noteworthy we've pulled together a collection of the best and latest tracks from Father John Misty, Sorry, Post Animal, The Breeders, and Lindstrøm as well as a rare gem from Caroline No.

NICE BISCUIT – CAPTAIN (BREAK EVEN RECORDINGS)

With the minds that turn so many Australian ears to great new music founding label Break Even Recordings, Brisbane’s Nice Biscuit feel like they’re in good hands. Band and label alike have teamed up to deliver new single ‘Captain’. Here collisions of Neu! and Barrett era-Pink Floyd see the outfit kicking their signature sonics into spacey overdrive.

ANGIE MCMAHON – MISSING ME (INDEPENDENT)

With her second single McMahon pours out all the vocal melodrama you could expect. The topic is love, the needling and heart shredding kind. There’s so much theatricality within these three minutes of music, it’s bursting at the sides.

FATHER JOHN MISTY – MR TILLMAN (SUB POP)

Lyrical brilliance at its best. Cheap sarcasm with all the worst indulgences of a period sing-songwriter at its worst. The thrill of Josh Tillman is never knowing which is coming next. A brief number inhabiting the mind of a politely frustrated hotel clerk, this catchy lead single doesn’t give too much read on what his forthcoming Father John Misty LP will entail. But you can’t help but feel that’s all part of the fun.

POST ANIMAL - RALPHIE (POLYVINYL)

One of the members of the band is from Stranger Things. Now that we’ve gotten that one out of the way, lean back into this Chicago outfit’s latest single. The track starts out as a sort of sixties-leaning Bay City Rollers before working in some more psychedelic ornamentation.

THE BREEDERS – NERVOUS MARY (4AD)

The appetite for drugs of Kurt Cobain and outsider ambition of Black Francis, Kim Deal juggled both. Yet unlike her peers, she survived the decade more or less intact.  Sporadically if anything else, she’s continued to make brilliant music. A sex symbol, studio genius and musical eccentric. She’s no saint, but a modern legend.

SORRY – 2 DOWN 2 DANCE (DOMINO)

Grungy without falling into cliché, ‘2 Down 2 Dance’ springs from the minds of Sorry. A South London outfit and recent Domino records recruits, the four dive coolly into speedy catharsis. Vocalist Asha Lorenz pulls this track together, mulling between angry releases and lovesick hedonism.

CAROLINE NO – ALEX (KCREC)

Caroline Kennedy’s naive vocals navigate the listener through a fleeting yet blissful moment of pure pop brilliance.

LINDSTROM – DIDN’T KNOW BETTER (FEEDALITY)

For those unfamiliar, Lindstrøm comes from an eccentric family of Norwegian producers. He follows the sound inside his head which, as he puts it, usually equates to something of an amalgam of two things: Space and disco. Pairing up with Nottingham vocalist Ronika, he crafts another eccentrically danceable track.
