We've had a really good week so far mostly because of the brilliant tunes that we've been hearing, new stuff from local guys IVEY and Robbie Miller and super beautiful material from Emma Louise

IVEY - ALL THINGS GOOD (Independent)

Fresh faced, born and bred to take on new adventures, Gold Coast's Ivey have been charming the pants off music fans and critics alike since 2013. Remaining just as breezy and young in their delivery but continuing to tighten the screws, Ivey ask nothing more of you, dear listener, than to revel in their indie-pop dream.
Building on the warm familiarity of previous single, 'Smell of Smoke' but also daring to tread new grounds, 'All Things Good' both sways and wallops with its charming delivery of honest lyrics that imbed in your brain. 'All Thing Good' was recorded with the helping hand of producer extraordinaire Konstantin Kersting (Yes Sir Noceur, the Belligerents, WAAX) at Brisbane's Airlock Studios and mixed by both Kersting and Gold Coast's own George Carpenter (Waxhead, Jimmy the Saint & the Sinners, Karl S. Williams)

EMMA LOUISE - WEST END KIDS (Liberation Records)

West End Kids is the latest song to surface from the seemingly endless depths of Emma Louise’s remarkable repertoire.  It follows on from Talk Baby Talk and Underflow, to become the third single from her highly anticipated sophomore record, Supercry. When listening to Emma Louise, one can’t help but visualise her personal yet inclusive lyrics. West End Kids is no exception. Emma soulfully paints an image in our subconscious that recalls memories of her and another’s lost relationship in their hometown of West End, Brisbane.

“I hadn’t left my house in about two weeks or so and a friend of mine took me to a show in my old neighbourhood, West End (in Brisbane). I had avoided it for about a year because that’s where i lived with my ex-boyfriend. After the show I walked around West End for hours and was hit in the face by all these old feelings, good and bad. I speeded home and wrote this song and it felt good.” - Emma Louise

KEATON HENSON - ALRIGHT (Play It Again Sam)

London artist Keaton Henson is back with the release of his stunning new single ‘Alright’, the first taste of his third official studio album Kindly Now, out on 16 September via Play It Again Sam / [PIAS].

‘Alright’ was written in Los Angeles shortly after the release of Henson’s acclaimed second album, Birthdays. Struggling with the apparent trade-off of having to put himself on display in order to make the music he loved, ‘Alright’ describes a very English way of grinning through pain. It’s a beautiful introduction to Kindly Now, a record which broadens Keaton’s canvas – more electronic in places, more classical in others – yet also reflects a life-long love of Randy Newman. Kindly Now is ultimately Keaton Henson’s most emotionally stripped-back album thus far, an unheroic and unsettling examination of past loves, the role of the artist, and owning up to your own destruction

ROBBIE MILLER - ROAD (Independent)

Robbie continues to forge his own path with new single 'Road', and whispers of a new EP to come later this year. Keeping busy following the release of triple j favourite, 'The Pain' and 2015 EP The Faster the Blood Slows, the Brisbane based Indigenous artist went straight back into the studio to create a wealth of new tracks. Devised as a collaboration with friend and bandmate Nathan Morrison, 'Road' brings more electronic elements to Robbie's folk sound than ever before. Pulsating synths swirl around his signature brooding vocals to create an emotionally powered three and a half minutes.

Road-testing the new material with a number of coveted support spots, Robbie recently toured alongside Josh Pyke and will support Dustin Tebbutt on his upcoming First Light album tour in August. He then releases his much anticipated second EP later this year with a few more surprises still to come.

THE JOHN STEEL SINGERS - MIDNIGHT AT THE PLUTONIUM (Create/Control)

The John Steel Singers have premiered the title track to their forthcoming LP Midnight At The Plutonium via triple j's 2016 on Sunday night. The Brisbane band's eagerly anticipated album is out Friday 8 July via Plutonium Records / Create Control. Midnight At The Plutonium is a new direction in sound for the beloved Brisbane band who for the past 2 years have been exploring more 70's funk & soul inspired records, melding them with their signature sonic personality to form a new post yacht hybrid.

The first taste from the record ‘Weekend Lover’ with its classy sax solo, whirly synths, off-beat guitar clicks and catchy as hell falsetto chorus, will stick in your head for days. Second single 'Can You Feel TheFuture' is an eight minute experimental epic which the band had been carefully tweaking for nearly 6 years. Midnight At The Plutonium is an album that's been a while in the making but is well worth thewait. Get ready to hear the band's most accomplished work to date.

TEETH AND TONGUE - DIANNE (Remote Control Records)

Teeth & Tongue are incredibly excited to share their brand new single 'Dianne' which received it's worldwide radio premiere on triple j's Home & Hosed with Dom Alessio on Tuesday night, and has premiered online via Fasterlouder today. 'Dianne' is the first single lifted from the band's forthcoming LP Give Up On Your Health which is set to be released in September 2016 via Dot Dash / Remote Control Records worldwide excluding North America where it will be release via Dot Dash / Captured Tracks.

On Teeth & Tongue’s fourth album, Give Up on Your Health, Jess Cornelius has crafted kitchen-sink dramas and relationship vignettes that follow a lineage from Ken Loach through Jarvis Cocker. As the New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based songwriter explains, “In the past I’ve written personal material, but this album is more about observation. I was reading essays by [American poet] Eileen Myles and she has this stream-of-consciousness style, no filter.”

SIGUR ROS - OVERDUR ( Remote Control Records)

The original, song-form version of 'Óveður', is accompanied by a new video by Swedish director Jonas Åkerlund, shot in the small town of Grindavík on the Reykjanes peninsular.  The video features Icelandic choreographer Erna Ómarsdóttir, as well as cameos from the band. Watch the video via the image below.
'Óveður', which is currently opening the band’s festival appearances, has been streaming live on Icelandic National TV and YouTube in an endless, ‘generative’ version since yesterday, as the soundtrack to the live broadcast of the 1332km journey around Iceland’s coastal ring road.  At the time of writing around half a million people have tuned in to watch the stream via the band's website.

BAD PONY - SIDEWAYS (Rare Finds)

Filled with infectious hooks from start-to-finish, ‘Sideways’ is a fun and fey indie-pop cut that draws inspiration from Two Door Cinema Club, Phoenix and Local Natives, whilst still retaining it’s own unique flavour; further confirming the Sydney-based group’s ability to effortlessly deliver outstanding eclectic tracks.

Previous singles ‘Zombie’, ‘Down To You’ and ‘Michael Moore’ all received strong support online and from Australian radio with triple j and a slew of community stations embracing the songs with regular play and rave reviews. In the last twelve-months the band has heavily traversed the countryside performing at boutique events Marmalade Skies Festival (NSW) and Red Deer Festival (QLD), and have now announced their biggest run to date with twenty-three shows booked across TAS, NSW, QLD, VIC and ACT.
