Well here's your weekly list of goodies, a nicely compiled collection of the best new tracks floating around the music atmosphere. New material from Methyl Ethel, WAAX and Gardens, every artist on the list this week is Australian, hellll fuck yeah!

PARCELS - 'GAMESOFL
UCK' (Kitsuné)

PARCELS return home for their first run of live shows since relocating to Berlin, signing with mega-hip Paris label Kitsuné and creating waves of buzz across Europe with their harmony rich, funk-pop sound. They release new single Gamesofluck in time for their touchdown on home turf for a tour in December.

The new single, Gamesofluck is a driving pop song with a classic electro-disco groove fronted by Parcels funky vocal harmonies. A modern take on an early 80s Miami dance track, the song finds its foundation in a throwback feel, classic drum machine beats and catchy bass lines. The groove drives its way through with layers of distant synths, percussion and a sunset beach party atmosphere. The vocals simultaneously grow from a brooding verse melody to a strong five man vocal chorus.

GUM - 'GEMINI' (Spinning Top Records)

GUM, the moniker of Tame Impala/Pond multi-instrumentalist Jay Watson has today surprised fans with future-soul single ‘Gemini.'  This comes coupled with the album teaser for his third consecutive self-produced album, Flash In The Pan  which will be released November 11 via Spinning Top Music and available for pre-order here.

‘Gemini’ is the first song I recorded for the album, and probably the most immediate,” says GUM.  “I’m not really a fan of star signs. It’s kind of a song about people pinning stuff happening in their lives on things like star signs and religion. I am a Gemini though, so there’s the bipolar/duality thing in there is as well.”

METHYL ETHEL - 'N0 28' (Remote Control Records)

Methyl Ethel have shared their first new music in eighteen months – the striking new single ‘No. 28’. Co-produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Foals), in collaboration with the Perth trio’s frontman Jake Webb it is accompanied by a touching and evocative visual, plus details of tour dates for 2017.

Written and recorded by Webb, ‘No. 28’ finds Methyl Ethel refining sounds and rendering them in 3D, thanks in part to London-based Ford, who has been working with Webb on the follow-up to debut albumOh Inhuman Spectacle (originally released in Australia back in the summer of 2015). The pair’s collaboration across the coming release has infused their shoegaze dream-pop palate with electronic flourishes, further evolving Methyl Ethel’s sound from initial EPs Guts and Teeth.

GARDENS - 'III' (Independent)

East Coast music band GARDENS have just dropped their latest track “III” straight on the pathway to your ears.

The track was recorded, produced and mastered by the three friends that make up GARDENS MUSIC BAND at Frogs Holla Studio, tucked away in the valleys of East Bobin on the Mid North Coasts’ hinterlands. Many late nights and poor sleeping patterns led to the result of the track “III”, in sequel to tracks “II” and “I”.

Mark B (drums, bass, keys and vocals) who when performing the track live, stalks and prowls around the stage shirtless describes the track as “ The joining of two to make three but then ending up with one” .

Mark G (keys, guitar, loops and vocals) is currently in the United States of Agiantshitstorm, lending his “Mad Scientist” like skills to try and provide some kind of calm for the clearly sleep deprived giant before returning to the shores for some shows in early January.

The bands’ bassist/guitarist is currently sitting in East Bobin enjoying a soothing breeze amongst the trees, listening to the singing of birds and enjoying an icy cold lemon squash.

“It’s sort of a good way for us to end the year? We’ve had an incredible amount of love and support from our friends and mates who we’ve been lucky enough to share shows with and hang out with over the past twelve months. It’s pretty great having the friends that we do, you don’t always realise how lucky you are when you’re embracing a stinky, sticky, sweaty hug with a friend straight off the stage or after a show. So yeah thanks for the year and we’ll see you again, real soon, briefly. G”

WAAX - 'SAME SAME' (Independent)

Opening with a fanfare of caustic guitars, 'Same Same' heralds an expanded melodic, more danceable approach - while retaining the acerbic attitude and vicious hardihood that WAAX have made their trademarks. Thematically, it's a natural successor to 'This Everything', set in a self-critical mindset struggling with destructive habits that don't seem to yield. If the adage is that "insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results", frontwoman Marie DeVita finds herself trapped in a pattern where "I pace, I backtrack, until I walk the same path".

"Whilst 'This Everything' explores an apathetic overwhelming feeling, 'Same Same' is the moment where I start to analyse what I'm going through - I start to understand why I was experiencing these overwhelming feelings of sadness and confusion and the idea of insanity creeps in."

NICK MURPHY - 'STOP ME, STOP YOU' (Future, Classic)

Nick Murphy just shared the first single from his forthcoming album, and the second track released after losing his 'Chet Faker' moniker. 'Stop Me (Stop You)' is an 8-minute anthem that sees the musician continue his musical evolution. 'Stop Me (Stop You)', co-produced by Dave Harrington, premiered yesterday on triple j and Pitchfork.

"'Stop Me (Stop You)' is essentially two inseparable songs. Yin and yang of past and present,"says Murphy.

Murphy's dynamic show pulls from his existing catalogue and new music. He is set to bring the show to stages across the globe including sold out shows in New York, Los Angeles and London and a headline slot at Laneway Festival 2017's dates in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

BAD PONY - 'BOTTLES' (Independent)

After releasing their standout single ‘Sideways’ and completing an incredible twenty-three date East Coast tour, Sydney-based indie-rock revelers, Bad Pony, have swiftly returned with a new track ‘Bottles’ and accompanying tour dates.

With every new release, the envelope is pushed further and ‘Bottles’ is no exception. The eclectic mix of erratic and explosive drum fills, fuzzed out and glimmering synths, Foals inspired guitar licks and the endearing vocals of enigmatic front man, Jarred Young all combine to deliver on a fresh and exciting take on modern day indie-pop.
Young describes the motivation behind writing the song –

“Bottles is about a toxic, alcoholic relationship. It's a lyrically co-written effort that explores frustration, infatuation, intoxication and despair.”

FRACTURES - 'FALL HARDER' (Independent)

With 11 million collective Spotify streams under his belt, and a handful of Hype Machine chart topping singles to his name,  Fractures returns with new single, 'Fall Harder'.  The track is plucked from his highly anticipated debut album, slated for 10 February 2017 and aptly titled Still Here. The record’s name aptly pays homage both to his persistent song-writing following the freak accident which saw him crack his neck, but also the nocturnal isolation (whilst based on the Mornington Peninsula off the coast of Australia) during which he wrote most of the record.

The moniker of Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalist Mark Zito, Fracturescontinues his musical career trajectory, having performed at BIGSOUND and currently on tour with singer-songwriter Emma Louise on her national album tour, Fractures’ layered live set continues to impress audiences across the country.
