NEW RELEASES! With BIGSOUND coming down heavy we’ll keep it brief. Seven essentials from ORB, Straight Arrows, The Goon Sax, Fritz, Idles, Our Girl and Wharves. There’s also a new King Krule film clip to boot. CHECK’EMOUT!
ORB – I WANT WHAT I WANT (FLIGHTLESS)

So do we and it’s this.

FRITZ - SUMMER HOLIDAY (INDEPENDENT)

In just a short amount of time Fritz has found a solid handle on her guitar pop sound. There are more than few bands plying this same space, but this Newcastle newcomer already feels like a cut above the rest. Easily catching.

IDLES - COLOSSUS(POD/INERTIA)

Idles don’t mince words and if you’re feeling for a bit of consciousness and some menacing instrumental motifs Joy As An Act Of Resistance is certainly your thing. ‘Colossus’ is the record’s opener. A moment of furious brilliance it is, in a word, dystopic.

WHARVES – MO’S DESERT CLUBHOUSE (INDEPENDENT)

Wharves have flirted with more than few styles in their time but with ‘Mo’s’ they seem to have settled on one. The sound in question? Well it’s the Franz Ferdinand rock groove they introduced with previous single ‘High School Hero’. Like Franz before them they’ve taken rock onto the dance floor. But just a warning guys, once you’re there it’s a place hard to leave.

STRAIGHT ARROWS - 21ST CENTURY (RICE IS NICE)

‘21st Century’ wouldn’t sound too out of place on 2014’s Rising. But in truth it’s the first cut from 2018’s On Top. Has it really been that long since Sydney’s premier fuzz merchants graced us with an album?

THE GOON SAX – WE CAN’T WIN (CHAPTER)

The Goon Sax weave warming despair. That same kind of melancholy as Dick Diver, Calendar Days. Not to say ‘We Can’t Wind’ is any kind of invocation or even that the two bands are connected, it’s just two voices and that feeling.

OUR GIRL – OUR GIRL (ROUGH TRADE)

Stranger Today is the debut record for this Rough Trade-endorsed outfit and it kicks the whole thing off with some considerable flair. There’s plenty of bands toying around with big, crashing riffs but when was the last time a set of alterna rockers sounded so glorious?

KING KRULE – BISCUIT TOWN (XL/REMOTE CONTROL)

Great album ya did der mate and dis new clip ain’t too bad eva.
