In Eyes are no doubt one of Brisbane’s most promising and enigmatic live acts. Having stayed quiet for a while since their 2018 release Silver Lining, Rosie Jacobson, Dylan Quigg and Kris Unwin are BACK and better than ever with their latest soon-to-be hit Time Won’t Wait. The track begins with gentle guitars and a steady drum beat lie beneath Rosie’s soft and intimate voice. “Wish I could silence all the noise, louder and louder ‘till there’s nothing I enjoy” Rosie sings, beginning to belt midway through, showing true power behind her voice. The vocal change translates almost like a sudden change in personality, like the Pop Punk equivalent of early Lana Del Rey, only with more punch.
With a changing drum beat, guitar tone and standout bass line, the entire tone of the track changes quickly, to an almost more anxious pace as it leads into the powerful chorus. “I know I would kill for a little bit more time to think this through, but time won’t wait for you”, ends the chorus on a powerful note before quietening down to a more intimate level. The songs dynamics are synonymous with earlier ‘Riot’ era Paramore, right down to the tonality of the instruments. The second verse softens again, retaining the intimacy of the first verse, only with a tinge more power behind the vocal delivery.

“Take the clock back…to all the years I spent believing
Take it all back… to all the times I had it easy
Take the clock back… to all the years I wasted dreaming
Take it all the back… to the world I never dreamed of leaving”

Sings Rosie in the song’s breakdown, lead out by an almost Tool-like musical intermission. These lyrics repeat like a mantra as the song comes to close with a final chorus. The song ends with Rosie’s isolated lyrics screaming “But time won’t wait for you” effectively leaving the message to linger long after the song is over.
This emotional slice of Pop Punk brilliance is available on all streaming services on Dec 12th.
