Lennox Head artist Kita Alexander releases new track 'Ocean Blue'

With driving beats, buttery vocals and emotionally-charged lyrics, Northern NSW-based singer/songwriter Kita Alexander has just released her new pop-anthem with “Ocean Blue”, the latest taste from her forthcoming EP due for release later this year.

Our home, the tiny surf village of Lennox Head, on the East Coast of Australia has certainly produced some amazing musicians including Sam Cromack of Ball Park Music and members of bands WHARVES, Lunatics on Pogosticks, Candy and Amyl and the Sniffers.

Kita Alexander, her partner, world series surf legend Owen Wright, and their family are well known in the little town but it is a place they can escape to and relax away from the bustle of the cities and the hype of nearby Byron Bay. Something in the water here?

Kita's new track takes inspiration from the sea spinning a tale of love and loss set against the background of paradise on the ocean's edge.

Produced by top NZ producer Josh Fountain (Benee, Ladyhawke) this pop track will have you dancing but has an underlying calmness and 'chill'. With a driving, double time feel with truncated turnarounds at the end of each verse, the track bursts with colour on a chorus and evokes the sweet sadness of “Boys Of Summer” and the sting of unrequited love.

With a unique talent for penning tracks around the complicated themes of love, loss and everything in between, the melancholic “Ocean Blue” strikes a particular chord for listeners. “Be the moon to my ocean” Alexander asks over echoing chords, effortlessly mixing classic songwriting with electronic overtones. Whilst her sound continues to sonically elevate, Kita is still writing from the same place, one full of emotion and experience. But like the subject matter she so often plays with, these days she’s taking even bigger leaps of the heart. “This is probably the cheeky, playful side of me that people haven’t seen. It’s just another example of what I can do and how different songs and sounds fit into my world.”

Now with over 133 million global streams under her belt, an impressive catalogue of critically acclaimed pop-anthems including 2 ARIA Gold singles (“Damage Done” and “Like You Want To”), ARIA Platinum “Between You & I” and the 2x ARIA Platinum single “Hotel”, 2 EPs and not to mention countless adoring fans around the globe, Kita is now gearing up for the release of her forthcoming EP. Set to feature previous heart-on-sleeve singles “Run” and “Storm”, the EP is due for release later this year.
