Music Video of the Week - Psychedelic Porn Crumpets 'Lava Lamp Pisco'

Our Australian Music Video of the Week is from Psychedelic Porn Crumpets for their track 'Lava Lamp Pisco'. A colourful trip created by animator Gina Tratt.

As with all Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ music, ‘Lava Lamp Pisco’ originated in the kaleidoscopic creative brain of songwriter Jack McEwan, before being fleshed out further in his home studio. The sounds of ‘Lava Lamp Pisco’ take Psychedelic Porn Crumpets into slightly different territory, anchoring things in a heavier guitar-centric space.

Jack says “After SHYGA! I wanted to write something a bit heavier, get back to the Sabbath roots and chug on a riff for yonks ‘til it hums like a Novocaine mantra. I wanted it to feel like it was constantly progressing, getting more chaotic with drones, swirling between dissonant layers and get the body jangling with a Tyson hook.”

As always the band have delivered incredible visuals to match the audio, this time teaming up with Bristol animator Gina Tratt for yet another wild ride. Gina Tratt has been working as an animator & motion-graphics artist for the past 10 years in advertising, music, events and online games.

After studying Digital Media at the Arts University Bournemouth, UK, she flew to Switzerland for a job as a motion designer at a leading Sports Ad agency. This meant working for some of the biggest worldwide brands (Adidas, Samsung, Audi, MasterCard...) and gave her a solid footstep into the industry and an amazing international team experience.

From there she decided to start her own business which would specialise in music and event visuals (since music is an equal passion), still occasionally taking on diverse demands in other areas of animation. Jack says“As soon as we saw Gina's work we all really wanted to collaborate and work together on a project. The idea was to follow the drone aspect of the track, build a playful landscape for midnight YouTube trippers to gobble up while outlining the expendable nature our mundane working routines; slice that up with some greedy corporate overlord whose main objective is to deplete the world of all resources for capitalistic gains and voila! You've got a Lava Lamp Pisco. Old mate Bezzy was the inspiration. Gina's an absolute hero! We love what she's created and hope that everyone enjoys our dark little episode.” Psychedelic Porn Crumpets is a band that MUST be seen live. We still vividly remember the buzz of our first PPC gig at Big Sound in 2017 at Crowbar Brisbane. A powerful, visceral experience which was also a hell of a lot of fun.
